Hope for Hooves Rescue, a local organization, is on a mission to provide a sanctuary for rescued farm animals and a transformative program that utilizes the therapeutic power of equine interaction.Unleashing the Restorative Potential of Animal-Assisted Therapy
Healing Journeys with Rescued Horses
At the core of Hope for Hooves Rescue's vision is the belief that the companionship and care of rescued animals can profoundly impact the emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being of those in need. The farm is home to a diverse array of rescued farm animals, each with its own unique story and the potential to forge a deep bond with the children and teens who will participate in the Healing with Horses program.Through this 10-week program, young participants will have the opportunity to learn the intricacies of horse care, from grooming and feeding to understanding their individual personalities and needs. This hands-on experience is designed to foster a sense of purpose, responsibility, and self-esteem – crucial elements in the healing process for those who have faced adversity.Nurturing Emotional Well-Being and Resilience
The Healing with Horses program is tailored specifically for children and teens with disabilities or those who have experienced any form of trauma. Bentley Roberson, a member of the Board of Directors, emphasizes the program's holistic approach, addressing the emotional, physical, and spiritual needs of the participants."A lot of them have multiple things going on in their background, and to work through that process to get to a point where they are more healthy emotionally, physically, spiritually, that's a part of what we are here to do," Roberson explains. The program's focus on building trust and relationships between the children and the horses is a crucial aspect of the healing journey. As the participants care for the animals and witness the horses' own stories of resilience, they are empowered to confront their own challenges and unlock their inner strengths.Fostering a Sense of Purpose and Community
Roberson emphasizes the importance of instilling a sense of purpose and belonging in the participants. By providing them with the opportunity to contribute to the care and well-being of the rescue animals, the program aims to help these young individuals recognize their own value and the positive impact they can have on the world around them."You're building a relationship with that horse. The child cares for the horse, the horse gets a sense of trust, and it's mutually beneficial. So that building of trust is important to build up to the stages of riding a horse," Roberson explains. The transformative power of this program extends beyond the participants themselves, as the mentors who volunteer to work closely with each child or teen also stand to benefit greatly from the experience."Seeing a child just come out where they didn't feel a sense of purpose initially or their self-esteem was damaged and no confidence, and to see that child come along in the 3-month period and to do some of their healing here is probably the most rewarding thing," Roberson shares, highlighting the profound personal growth and fulfillment that mentors can experience through this initiative.Expanding Horizons with Faith-Based Exploration
In a new addition to the program, Hope for Hooves Rescue is incorporating a bible study component, providing participants with the opportunity to explore the spiritual dimensions of their healing journey. This integration of faith-based elements aims to offer a holistic approach to personal growth and resilience-building, catering to the diverse needs and beliefs of the young individuals it serves.Empowering Youth Through Community Generosity
The Healing with Horses program is made possible by the generosity of the local community, offering the transformative experience free of charge to participants. However, the rescue is currently in need of more mentors to work one-on-one with each child and teen, ensuring that they receive the personalized attention and support they deserve.Roberson emphasizes the mutual benefits of the mentor-mentee relationship, as the mentors themselves stand to gain immensely from the experience of witnessing the personal growth and healing of the young participants. As the program prepares to launch on September 17th, the team at Hope for Hooves Rescue is eagerly awaiting the arrival of the next cohort of young individuals who will embark on a journey of self-discovery, resilience, and the transformative power of the human-animal bond.New
